A prison in Jackson is under partial quarantine after 150 prisoners fell ill with flu-like symptoms.

An estimated 30 inmates developed food poisoning symptoms at Parnall Correctional Facility last weekend and Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman Russ Marlan confirmed the number has since grown to about 150.

Officials say there does not appear to be a connection between the illnesses and the recent discovery of maggots near the food service line at the facility.

A partial quarantine means prisoners are not allowed to have visitors, and the facility is not moving inmates in or out.

Marlan says the prison is awaiting test results from sick prisoners to identify the illnesses. He did not know when the quarantine would be lifted, but says as the number of affected individuals is still growing and the quarantine will likely be in effect over the long Fourth of July weekend.
