Michigan's DHS Revamps Services to Foster Kids

The Michigan Department of Human Services says it's revamping its funding model for 13,000 foster care children in the state.

The department says the initiative aims to improve outcomes for adopted and foster children.

Governor Rick Snyder said in a statement Thursday that the goal is to stop basing payments to agencies on the number of children they handle and instead looking at the needs of each child. He's releasing details at a Thursday news conference in Royal Oak.

The department says the new program ``will ensure that just one agency provider will manage the case for a child from beginning to end ... and be held accountable for the outcome of that child's case.''

The department says it allows more innovation and creativity in helping children.
